Diode Dynamics Lighting Defined

Here's where we define the nitty gritty and nerdy details on the Diode Dynamics SS3 LED Pod lights offered through ElementDriven.

If you are new to how forward lighting works and just not sure where to start with getting fog or driving lights, this info should help with decision making.

Descriptions Clarified: By definition, fog lights are defined as having an amber/yellow lens. Driving lights are white/clear.

Now that that's out of the way, Diode Dynamics does offer clear/white lens SS3 pods with amber LEDs to help cut through fog and inclement weather with their SAE Fog lens. Who new you could mix the best of both worlds?
If you like the looks of a clear lens but want SAE Fog road-legal functionality, those units are a great choice. They also offer SAE Driving lights with white LEDs so you can be confident that you have quality lighting to aid in low-light driving conditions.

Why Diode Dynamics? Four things that stand out to us:

  • Durability - ever try finding replacement broken lens for inferior lights?
  • Amount of Available Light - they truly know how to define LED lighting
  • Production Quality - they put their products through the paces
  • Backing Up What They Make - industry-leading guarantee/warranty

Breaking it Down. What are My Choices?

How Much Light Do You Need? Diode Dynamics offers three intensity levels (brightness/Lumens): Sport - Pro - Max. That's essentially where the pricing differences happen. The brighter the light, the more expensive. It all depends on your lighting needs. Most of us don't drive in fog every day. But it's good to have fog lights when needed and to help get you where you need to go when Mother Nature makes it harder. In that case, the Sport is your best choice for economical supplemental lighting.

If you travel in remote areas where you need the most light you can get, then Max is the best choice to help keep you out of the ditches and scout out your next remote camping location.

Lens Style
What Type of Beam Pattern or Spread of Light Will You Need?
This is where Diode Dynamics offers five great beam pattern choices to cover a wide range of auxiliary lighting needs. Choose from five lens styles: SAE Driving - SAE Fog - Flood - Spot - Combo
The SAE Driving are only available with the white/clear lens style.

Lens Color
Yellow or Clear? All the LED fog light kits listed on our site are available in two different color temperatures, 6000K cool white and 3000K selective yellow. The white option is a 6000K temperature, which is cool white light and the yellow light output is 3000K, which is great for poor weather conditions.

The LED fog light kits are available in two SAE-compliant, road-legal beam patterns. The SAE Driving pattern is designed to supplement your high beams, but it’s great for general illumination as well. Rather than a traditional "spot" pattern, the Stage Series Driving pattern shines in an 18x8 degree spread, providing just enough width to fully illuminate the road ahead at high speeds.

The SAE Fog option provides an extremely wide field of view, with high-intensity output over an entire 80-degree spread. It serves as a great upgrade for any factory foglamp, and will fully illuminate the area in front of your vehicle.

When installed as a pair and aimed in accordance with your state's regulations, the Driving White pattern meets SAE J581 standard as a Driving/Auxiliary High Beam Light, and the Fog pattern meets SAE J583 standard as a Foglamp, for legal on-road use. Please check your local laws and regulations for aiming, installation and applicability.

Unlike other options on the market, these LED fog light kits have been tested to ensure that they will last for years to come, no matter what the conditions. This includes testing in Diode Dynamics' environmental testing chambers, which tests the effects of extreme temperature and humidity, corrosion, water intrusion and vibration. Best of all, they are backed by an 8-year warranty should you have any issues.
